Field Notes
Where the body belongs
Time passes. A place that was foreign becomes native. A route that required attention becomes instinct. You know where your feet will land, and which stones are loose. You know how it all shifts with the seasons. You know the place the way you know your own body.
And just as the landscape now lives in you, your body now lives in the landscape. Your footsteps have worn a path. Your movement has shaped the landscape. You have become part of its history. The trail carries the mark of everyone who has moved through it, and you are one of those people now.
You belong to it the way it belongs to you.
